Ideas For Something Blue

The Timeless Tradition

As the echoes of Victorian elegance reverberate through the ages, a captivating tradition has endured: the incorporation of "something blue" into a bride's wedding attire. This enchanting custom, steeped in symbolism and sentiment, is believed to beckon purity, love, and unwavering fidelity.

Just as the vast expanse of the sky meets the horizon in a serene hue of blue, so too does this timeless color infuse the bridal ensemble with a touch of ethereal beauty. Whether it's a delicate blue garter, a pair of exquisite sapphire earrings, or a subtle blue sash, this symbolic element adds a layer of elegance and romance to the special day.

As the bride steps into the spotlight, her "something blue" whispers tales of love's enduring power. It's a silent promise, a secret wish, a touch of magic woven into the fabric of her wedding day.

History

The tradition of "something blue" originates from an old English rhyme, thought to date back to the 19th century in Lancashire, England. The full rhyme is:

Something old,

something new,

Something borrowed,

something blue,

A sixpence in your shoe.

While the exact origin of the "something blue" tradition is unclear, it's believed to have evolved from various cultural beliefs and superstitions. The color blue has long been associated with purity, love, and fidelity in many cultures. It was also thought to ward off evil spirits.

Today, the "something blue" tradition continues to be popular, with brides often incorporating blue elements into their wedding attire, accessories, or decorations.

It's a charming way to add a personal touch to the wedding day and honor a time-honored tradition.

Ideas for Your ‘Something Blue’

1. Garter: A delicate blue garter can be a hidden surprise, adding a touch of romance.

This may not be ideal, if you think people will be asking you what is your ‘something blue’ is. This may be a tad bit awkward. The garter is more of a sexy little touch for your significant other’s eyes only. But when it’s kept a secret between you and your groom, that could be very special to give your ‘something blue’ in honor of ‘his eyes only’!

2. Shoes: A pair of stunning blue heels or flats can be a stylish and comfortable choice.

Remember, if you don’t want blue shoes, you can always customize the bottom of your heels. If you decide on this, don’t forget to get the perfect shot of your heel-pop!

3. Belt or Sash: A thin blue sash or belt can accentuate the waistline of a wedding dress.

Remember that your dress is white, so the shade of blue is important. I would suggest going with a pale, dusty-vintage, very light shade of Robbin-egg blue or something of the sorts! I LOVE the look of a belt on the dress, and sparkly belts are trending in bridal fashion!

4. Jewelry: A dainty blue necklace, bracelet, or earrings can complement the overall look.

A gorgeous testimony to something blue. Aquamarine is my mom’s personal favorite stone, so I was thinking of doing this and honoring her in my something blue. Remember, you can switch up jewelry throughout the wedding celebrations, just make sure this blue jewelry statement doesn’t go unnoticed! Sapphire is so beautiful too… blue jewels are simply gorgeous! Think about it.

5. Hair Accessories: A blue hair clip, comb, or headband can add a touch of color and elegance.

A very pretty clip can be hand-made to your liking and hairstyle! Wearing any up-dos during your festivities? A blue clip or any other hair accessory may look so perfect tucked into a loose bun, for example.

6. Bridesmaids: Consider a blue accent, such as a blue sash or a blue flower in their hair.

Flowers in your bridesmaids’ hair is the prettiest idea! Even if it’s only for a few pictures of you and your girls. Flower crowns never go out, and flower girls definitely deserve this moment too!

7. Flowers: Incorporate blue flowers, such as hydrangeas or delphinium, into bouquets and arrangements.

Can. Not. Go. Wrong. Especially baby-blue peonies!!

‘Something blue’ is a beautiful reminder of the love, purity, and fidelity that you and your partner share.

As you embark on your new life together, may the spirit of "something blue" continue to guide you. May your love story be as enduring as this timeless tradition.
